I have not registered this but I wanted to ask what the story is behind registering domains with people's names.

Is this legal?


I must admit I'm confused and uneducated in this, I have seen on sedo recently football club domains going for a fair amount, how can be alllowed surely that is simple 'passing off' in relation to IP law?

Messi has his rights on his own name but that doesn't mean he will claim all the websites with his name.
If you're making a fanclub and you have no bad intentions with the name, i don't think you will have a problem.
I'm not sure, but that's my view.
