Hi everyone,

I just wondered if anyone could give me their opinion on value for microlight.co.uk please?

This domain was first registered on: 16-Apr-1997

Traffic Stats:
5400 - global
1900 - local

Many Thanks

Perry

Hi Perry,

I think its a good solid generic name. Im sure Microlights are quite popular in the UK. It would be a good name to develop a website around, including maybe a classifieds section, forum/community for microlight owners, insurance, photos etc....

When it comes to value, i'd have difficulty saying how much I thought it would be worth if you wanted to sell it undeveloped. It would obviously depend if you could find an end user who wanted to buy it.

My opinion on value would be around £1,500 to £3,000. But thats totally my opinion and im sure other people will have their own opinions.

Not going to give an appraisal simply because there are several trademarks for microlight so do some research and make sure you're ok ?

Good luck 8)

I wouldnt have thought that would be a problem as long as the site was related to a site about the Microlight aircraft things

So where does its value come from then if not related to aircraft ?

Hi Doodlebug, im not sure I undeerstand your question, the estimate I gave for the domain was due to it being a generic name for a microlight aircraft. If you search in google for microlight, it is very popular and has lots of results.

Why would someone buy the domain and not make it related to the aircraft?

I actually never said they wouldn't just to be careful because of several trademarks but if microlight is trademarked by aircraft company then you can't base a value of the domain on that.

Ok, he asked for a estimate of its value, that was just my own opinion based on it being a generic word. I didnt look in to trademarks etc....

Do a trademark search for "cars", you'll find plenty. None of these could stop the owner of cars.co.uk launching a website relating to cars. The same applies to microlight.co.uk if used in relation to the aircraft.

Difference being Jarrod is that all thes car ones are variations of the word cars whereas microlight is trademaked on its own.

Seeing as though helicopter.co.uk sold for £4210 on sedo today, I would probably lower my valuation to around high £xxx.

There is a TM but it's not for its generic/descriptive use. Basically, there's nothing stopping the owner of Microlight.co.uk selling Microlights - which is where the value is.

Class 09: Radio communication systems; radio communication systems, and manuals in electronic form being sold as a unit therewith.Class

Class 16: Printed matter including instruction manuals; manuals for radio communication systems.

Maybe so, I just advised the OP to do some research to be on the safe side ;)

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Not too sure what my plans are for this yet but would definitely look into the trademark issue if I did decide to develop.

Surprised Helicopter.co.uk sold for that little but can you tell me why you think microlights.co.uk would be worth less markb please? not questioning your opinion and im sure you have more experience than me in the domain industry, just wondered what reasons could make it lower in value? other than the obvious traffic difference, unless that is the sole reason you would value it at less?

Hi Perry,

I think Microlight.co.uk would be worth less due to Microlights being a lot less popular, which you can see by how many people search for the terms in google. Microlight is search 1,900 times and helicopter 27,100 times. Obviously though the microlight will have value other than just how many people search for the name. It is a perfect name for anyone wanting to create a site about Microlights.

I think it's worth a few thousand to the right person. 'Microlight' is more specific than 'helicopter' (also related to toys/ games) and visitors will probably be more targeted as a result.

'Helicopter' also sold of course through Sedo, which as we all know generally means trade/reseller pricing. I'm sure a helicopter lessons or helicopter charter company would pay more than the price is sold for.

Edit: How much did you pay for it when you bought it? The for sale thread came under 'similar threads' at the bottom of the page ;)

Yes you probably could get a good price if you can find an end user. Or you could develop it and increase its value.

Thanks Rob, exactly my point.

The true value from this domain would come from use in conjunction within the following class:

Class 12:Vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water.

And it would be virtually impossible to get a TM for "microlight", "cars", "vans" etc in this use class.

-----

On a separate note... if you Google "microlight" you'll see plenty of microlight experience days (@ £100+ each) and microlight flying lessons, so revenue could be ok, along with classified ads and microlight insurance.

I used to own microlights.co.uk (i think or what it microlight).. any how it wasn't until after i bought it that i noticed the correct spelling is MicroLite.

Just thought i would let you know.

Oddly the spelling microlight actually gets more exact unique searches that microlite does.
