Monetising a popular niche site

This could have been posted in both affiliate marketing and contextual advertising, both are appropriate, but I've stuck it here for general purposes.

We have a large and popular music fansite that has tracked the career & rise of one of the UK's best known groups (the lead singer is married to a well known redhead US actress, and they name their kids after fruits). It's a global site and the leader in the niche.

Up to now it's been monetised using google adsense. But adsense revenue has plummeted in recent years - for everyone using adsense not just us - to the point that it's not close to covering costs.

So, ideas for monetising the site?

Thought about amazon products, related affiliate products, ticket sales ads. Even begging letters!

Think ultimately your last line is what you need to do. Promote their albums and singles to buy from Amazon, plus the download services if they offer affiliate based commissions. Also promote the large ticket companies for when they are on tour.

Low maintenance and will turn outbound links into affiliate links on the fly.

Will obviously depend if users link out much and how much they go off topic.
