Hi Guys,

I have a question in relation to registering multiple domains.

I have this app developed and is ready to be marketted and i have the .com should i register the others like .net, .org, .co.uk, .ie and probably .eu or .com will be enough, also, can i stop someone else from using the same concept of any of these extentions if they register them and become my competition based on copyright?

Your feedback will be appreciated.

Assuming your business will be UK based then the main 5 extensions are. co.uk, .org.uk, .com, .net and. org, the others don't really matter.

As for your trademark you only need to be using it in order to have the rights to it, just make sure that you have proof and a live website should do the trick.

It would be. However, it will be launched globally in some shape or form. I am not concerned about the UK extentions but mainly for those out of UK / Europe. Having .co.uk site with Trademark and Copyright with full documentation, will this suffice to stop someone else coming into picture?

I see you're in Slovenia, so you wont be able to get yourname.ie as the rules for .ie are quite strict, in order to get one you'll need to be a registered business in Ireland, and show documentation etc to support that fact.

We have the documentation for the EU; under the EU directive which covers it all within Europe. The only thing I want to be sure about is the domain names. If 1 will be enough after Copyright approval with Trade Mark or we would still need to have these in place.

Surely if the product/app is valuable to you and you have concerns regards other people utilising the same name on other key extensions, then for the sake of €40 or so you can secure .co.uk, .net and .org?

Owning the .com won't stop someone buying the .net. Whether they infringe your copyrights down the line is another matter. But the legal effort to fight that against the cost of simply acquiring the names yourself now seems like a no brainer.

Thanks Peter, Makes sense.

Thanks guys for your replies and feedback. I wanted to get few netural opinions which I did.

Thank you again all.
