just logged on, and weekends are normally dead on acorn, however just seen
136 members and 470 guests online!

136 members!
never seen that many regulars on here!

is there a party going on somewhere on forum i dont know about ? :D

I think it's that the "Logged in" period has been extended so users stay active for longer - if you look at the last activity time for the people listed as being online now it now stretches back to 11am this morning - normally it's only XX minutes maximum.

See here http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/online.php?order=desc&sort=time&pp=200&page=1&who=members for the logged in members ordered by last activity time.

Might well be wrong though.

so whos online now and who isnt, last activity goes back hours for some, plus i liked to click on "Domainers online" and see what people are up to.

ditto. Now however (with admin administered new settings) it is not a true representation of who is currently using the forum.

What I do is default the remember me tick box to on.
The implications are that the session will never time out which may be an issue on a shared computer, but then if the user is on a shared computer they should logout before leaving it anyway.

Thanks for the input but does this do it though? Members are telling me it differs by browser....

I must admit I use Chrome and it never times out..

Yep, works on all my forums. Only exception is people with corrupt cookies, people who log out (as that destroys the cookie at logout) or people who untick the remember me.

I can't even remember the last time I logged in to the forum!... The 'remember me' tick box works like a charm!

Rich

Firefox on mac never times out. Also forumrunner on iPhone doesn't time out with old settings.
