problem is they have made it impossibly hard for a new bank to start in uk
think last one was northen rock in 1981
if not done right would look like a ponzi scheme, which is what most banks are lol

never been a better time to start a new, credible fair bank
heard co-operative bank is best of the rest, maybe worth a look

Although I used to work for them (absolutely hated them as an employer), I have no problems with HSBC. I don't go over my overdraft with them (like I used to time and time again) and don't suffer fees so don't have that grudge to bear. Their mortgage rates are some of the best around and their insurance products are high quality/comprehensive.

Two things I would say against them is that their personal loans are quite expensive unless they have a promotion on and half of their customer services are in India (which bank hasn't moves CS offshore though I guess).

I used to be with the Abbey (Santander) who were absolutely awful. Not sure whether they improved when they were bought out.

I am with Northern Bank, just for my current account as my savings are hidden offshore

Great customer service, all my bank statements are online which I love.

I`m with RBS Halifax & HSBC never had any problems with any of them, but to be fair I dont have much to do with them just put money in and take money out.
