You may have already seen it - I hadn't until now - police taking a liver for transplant from Stanstead airport to a hospital in West London in 29 minutes...brilliant driving!

I can't get over how little traffic there was back then.

I did a ROSPA driving course about 20 years ago and the instructor was from Essex Police driving school who showed us this as an example of how to implement all we'd learned :)

Essex handed over to the Met at Stanstead so he was keen to highlight the occasional mistake that the Met boys made :)

An excellent watch though

yep, good stuff
key is knowing where you're going, or all is lost
topography is more important than sheer speed
old motors they were in back then too, no abs etc

so little traffic like you say, but I guess would just go in a chopper now

I used to transport "spare parts", which were in big white refrigerated boxes, clearly marked URGENT - HUMAN ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT
When you went through the hospital the crowds would scatter and make room for you to pass.
I never worked out whether they were thinking let that important guy pass, there are lives waiting to be saved, or yeuuuch, that guy's got boxes of slippery bits!
Regards
Bruce

I imagine it is a fraction of the traffic there is now, but there do appear to be a number of helpful police officers along the road who are holding back oncoming traffic and traffic from the side roads. So it looks well planned.
