Hi All,

Ok as has been proven from countless threads, you lot have a very wild and imaginative set of brains so I set a challenge.

I have been asked for ideas for my 40th from a bunch of mates, but I mostly have the things that would spring to mind and not overly fussed about latest gadgets.... most of them are happy to spend up to £100, but I am almost stumped on what to suggest!

If it's any help / narrowing :

a. No experience things (would rather pay for ones I really want)
b. Must last longer than a crate of beer
c. Is at least a little bit classy (no dodgy mankini's)
d. Potentially something useful - even though maybe I don't know it
e. No clothing
f. No puzzle things... brain too adled for that sort of stuff
g. No f-ing website stuff....

If it's any help, interests include snowboarding (I have all gear), drinking (whisky and beer - bnut don't need daft glasses or optics!), golf (have all gear - although my shoes looking a bit manky), eating out (so restaurant for 2 is good).

Help!

well I'm 40 next year too. depressing isnt it? ;)

i'm surprised you have friends that want to buy you something, dont mean personally lol
but men don't do that, do we? :)

i would imagine when they are asking about ideas, they want you to suggest you all go on a major pissup golfing holiday in spain or something ;)

just an idea
pressies are for girls :p

Ouch, that reminds me that I'll be the big four zero next year as well!

How many friends are involved? You can get a porno film made with you as the male star from a studio in Bristol I think...starts about £500 but obviously goes up with the number of tarts you want co-starring. ;-)

Edit: Sorry - I'm assuming you're a man. I'm sure they can accomodate no matter what you like...

Yep

Yep

Am I sounding too monotone... ?

Anyways, I am paying for 5 mates, family and children, for a weekend away with, shooting, quad bikes and great meals etc. so maybe that's why they are so keen to buy 'something'.... about the only time I will ever get them all the same place until I die I guess... that's cheery!

40... You young thing you...

How about sky diving in those big fan things that are springing up everywhere. Wouldn't last as long as a beer but should be excellent fun?

Or how about one of these?

I'm 43 next month, and I can honestly say that the best years of my life....are well behind me!

ha ha... not quite there yet ;) Although if I break something again boarding this winter I may well be... !

Some ideas (difficult without knowing someone):

If you wear glasses, you could ask them to put their money towards laser eye surgery - I'd highly recommend it (although it's a lot more than £500).

Do you have a charitable side? £500 can go a long way in many countries (even in the UK if spent in the right way).

A golf membership for a year? or golf lessons?

A decent bike, if you'd use it.

Do you listed to music while working? What about a good system/headphones for that?

Nostalgia... do you have favourite tv shows that are not repeated? Get them to buy you box sets (amazing how many can be bought for that amount of cash - remember to tell them to shop around online).

How about tickets to music gigs / festivals. A trip to Scotland for T in The Park (camping) along with a few days tagged on in Edinburgh would be about £500 - problem would be who would go with you that you know.

Do you support your national football team? if so, how about an away game and mini-break.

running low on ideas now...

Iam forty next month I have asked people to give me suggestions to what I should be going for the next year instead of buying me stuff (sounded good at the time.)

look at the suggestions so far over at www.forty.me.uk

:)

I second the T in the Park suggestion. I've been there several times in the early days, and the camping weekend is an experience. Just make sure you pitch your tent on higher ground than the portaloos, it's not nicknamed piss in the park for nothing.
