.NET domain value

Hi All,

I got discountchecker.net yesterday on domain monster for £3.60 using a discount code I found. I wanted to know what the general opinion is for a .NET domain

I know they are originally meant for ISPs but do they rank ok.

I know skyscanner.net is doing really well with their domain name 2nd for cheap flights on SERPs so is this all still about onsite and offsite SEO.
