New to dropcatching, what should I know?

I've just rented a script from transcom and giving this a go, so far on SEO domains but not nabbed any today - seem to have gone for competitive ones that had backorders on caught etc though.

Any tips for a newbie? What kind of domains should I go after, should I go for the high value ones and just rely on luck to get one occasionally, or go for low hanging fruit in bulk?

I'm guessing the drops might happen at the same time of day as the domain was registered but no idea how to find that out, and I'm guessing if that is the case no one would reveal their secret info.

Also happy to do backorders for others.

Welcome to chasing
You have to remember that you and hundreds of others are potentially chasing the same fruit.
It’s your luck of the draw and using a server in the right place at the right time.
I thought that theory of the time of registration could have something to do with it but in real terms only the original registrar would have that info and I’ve seen my own dropping at hours when I wouldn’t have been registering them in the past so that’s not the case.
You will learn as you go.
Keep us posted on how it goes. Good luck.

Domain catching is just a very technical lottery!

You've got to be in it, to win it ;)

Managed to get one domain with decent backlink profile with the script so it does work, wasn't on my original list for the day but at least I got something.

Offering £350 for a SEO domain catch today I'm after if anyone isn't chasing something else, PM me for name

Any tips for a newbie?

1. If you are going to get 10 friends to be Nominet members (more DACs) make sure they don’t have a surname ending in “OVA” or “EVA”

2. If you are going to get 5 tags for multi tagging (1000 creates per tag) make sure you don’t catch a name and then quickly move it to another tag

3. If you are going to become a prolific drop catcher make sure you wasn’t a builder to start with ;) Unless of course you are good at floors (DAC flaws).

It's common knowledge that I move all caught domains to DROPPED-UK, as I've mentioned on a previous post, so they can be managed from the web UI. I can't have the automated web transfers/tag changes opening EPP connections and interrupt chasing, hence chasing is performed on a separate tag.

Oh, and I'll add that chasers get bitter/mardy when they miss a domain!
