Hi there

Newbie here with a question on the above extensions.

I have thought of a couple of domain names I would like to register and for one of them, all the major extensions are gone ie - com, net, org, info, biz, co.uk. However .eu and .us are still avaliable.

For the other .biz and .eu are avaliable, all the other extensions are gone

I am wondering what people's thoughts are on the relative value of the avaliable extensions. Would eu be more valuable than biz or us or visa versa. Or is the fact that they are avaliable an indication that they are of little value and its best to ignore them.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

hmm nasty situation..

i'd probably go for the .biz over the .us & the .eu if u want it for UK.

I've heard a few people on local UK radio station advertising their .biz websites - so its getting some saturation.

if u are aiming soley at Uk u could do worse than a .org.uk

whers your market?

hi there

thanks for the reply. its a generic term so in theory could be here or the us but probably would concentrate here.

interestingly enough I have just seen that the .co.uk plural version of what i was considering is for sale for £x,xxx. So maybe the .biz aimed at uk would have some value (esp as I think the singular works better than the plural in this instance)

I think you'd want to look at how Google might handle the .biz domain when handling geo targetting.

In theory it would be like any other 'generic' extension ie. .com, .org, .net, which effectively means to target Google.co.uk you want a server / hosting account that is physically located in the UK.

I've got a feeling that .biz maybe targetting the US, which means it may not rank at all well for google.co.uk.

Are there any restrictions on registering .biz domain names?

good point,

i dont think theres any restriciton on .biz.

maybe its a trade off between image over substance..

maybe the .bizhas more corp feel but .org.uk or dare i even say it .me.uk ;) would do much better for SEO.

from an SEO POV google def gobbles up .org.uks ok :)

Perhaps .org.uk for SE's then and a .biz for off-line advertising would be a good punt.
