Only problem with registering large volumes of domains for long term investment is that every 2 years you are having to renew them, so year by year costs escalate. OK if you can sell enough to cover the cost of renewing the others.
Notice Nokta have recently let quite a few generic type names expire, not sure if this was deliberate or they have so many they've missed a couple, would seem odd to let domains expire which may have some value only to register some more obscure type names.
I recently caught flooded.co.uk which I think was previously registered with Nokta, would be decent name for any company involved in manufacturer or supply of flood defence equipment.

Seems to me just to be a self funding exercise gambling on large numbers, I should imagine most of the revenue generated from all these domains is simply pumped back into reg free domains & renewals the aim being to cover as many niches as possible and generate more income through the traffic generated from all of these domains.
I'm sure lots of us do this here but on a smaller scale, I know all my registrations are funded via PPC so in essence the domains I hold now just fund more and more reg fee domains, PPC every month increases and so do the amount of domains you register...it's a simple, if you keep profits in the company low then you pay less tax, I know i'd rather hold more domains than pay the extra tax because the company made x amount of profit.
Probably holding out for a Marchex style offer.
That's my take on it anyway, best of luck to them.
