It's not a scam, but a very dodgy domain - and they own the .co.uk.

I'm not best pleased.

LOL, are you being ironic?

It's perfectly legit. Nomensa are a long established and very reputable web development and consultancy company, specialising in accessibility and usability. Nominet are a nice client to land...

Does that mean you believe they consciously named their company with the same first three letters as Nominet to gain some sort of commercial advantage?

And that their "very dodgy domain" is designed to do the same thing?

It's what scammers do with domains and so I and anyone else are better to be than running in.

I don't think it was a great wat to go about the tasks in hand but hey it's the bank holiday weekend!!!

Very sensible, but in that email they included their telephone number, address, company number, and VAT reg number. If you were suspicious, there was more than enough there to satsify yourself whether it was legit or otherwise, rather than come on here and ask "SCAM?".

They could get clients to set up a subdomain such as survey.nominet.org.uk - pretty sure the client is aware if they set up a subdomain (which can happily point to other servers, those run by Nomensa). I guess nominet have the expertise to set up DNS for that

Of course, you still have the issue of people adopting all sorts of phishing tactics - but if it's all legit then the above seems a sensible solution.

A rough Latin translation:

nominet - to expressly name
nomensa - name, power

Kind of fits with each companies objectives.

You're right, there was nothing in that email that verified a relationship with Nominet, a sub-domain would have made a lot of sense. I think since I was familiar with Nomensa already I missed the point, if I hadn't been familiar with them I'm not sure I would have trusted it either.

Including a phone number and company number doesn't "prove" legitimacy - for example, many phishing emails steal the template from a legitimate email, graphics and all. It's only the URL that differs, and that may also lead to a near-perfect clone of the real site.

After all if you're going to commit fraud, credit card scamming and ID theft, what's a little copyright infringement?
