Nominet has been selected as a trusted partner to run critical domains as the new registry for .gov.uk, helping to keep vital national services and infrastructure safe.

We secured the contract through a competitive tender on the government NS3 framework. As .gov.uk is part of the .UK family, we already play a behind the scenes role signposting the DNS.

This win means that we will be playing a more visible role, supporting .gov.uk registrars and the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) with their plans to modernise .gov.uk. This agreement is a natural extension of the technical role we already provide for the rest of .UK and related second level domains (including .nhs.uk .mod.uk, and .police.uk).

This agreement is strategically important for both Nominet and the UK government. Running the .gov.uk registry will enable us to provide security coverage across critical domains, which form part of the digital economy that we all rely on every day.

As a public benefit company and proud registry of .UK, we’re delighted to be entrusted with this new role supporting .gov.uk.

The work begins now as our team start preparing for the handover. We will be following government guidance on next steps to ensure a smooth transition.
