Friends of Abbeyfields holds fundraising events for Abbeyfields First School pupils, families and the local community. They fundraise to provide learning spaces, equipment and materials to enhance the children’s education and school experience.
Lesley Moody OBE, Managing Director at AES Digital Solutions Ltd. in Stockton on Tees nominated Friends of Abbeyfields for funding through the Members’ GiveHub in March 2024. As a result, Nominet awarded £9,950 in funding to help Abbeyfields First School enhance its computing lessons.
The funding will help Abbeyfields First School, based in Northumberland, enhance its computing curriculum and improve online safety through engaging and interactive lessons.
This significant funding will drive forward Friends of Abbeyfields’ project to enhance the school’s computing curriculum through a bespoke, sequenced bank of lessons for every year group. This will increase children’s knowledge of online safety – using floor robots and quality literature to create an interactive experience. Speaking about the funding, Friends of Abbeyfields said “It is very exciting! Thank you, Nominet.”
“As a school, we are absolutely thrilled to have been successful in our bid to support the development of our personalised computing curriculum. The GiveHub application and submission process was straightforward and helped us clearly consider what kind of project would have the biggest impact on our pupils. We decided on a project within Nominet’s ‘Secure’ Pillar as online safety is one of our current contextual safeguarding concerns. We appreciate the support given by AES Digital Solutions Ltd. to help guide our vision.
The funding will enable us to work closely with two inspirational Computing Consultants with boundless enthusiasm and countless years of computing experience in education. The impact we want is to first and foremost educate the children in online safety in age-appropriate interactive lessons, but also to inspire the children to consider future career options in STEM and cyber security. Thanks to Nominet – this is becoming a reality!”

“We are so pleased that Abbeyfields have put an innovative plan in place to integrate this novel, online-safety project into the curriculum, and to extend benefits to all year groups in the school. The development of lesson plans is already in progress, and floor robots have been ordered. AES has been invited to observe the introductory deployment of the materials. These should lead to the school having sets of teaching materials that cover all students and through the “Friends of Abbeyfields school” with parents, as well as sharing with other schools in the region.
AES are keen to help support the development of digital learning in all its aspects, and would encourage all Nominet members to participate through GiveHub to grow our national digital skill set at all levels, with groups in their communities.”

Every month, Nominet members can apply for up to £10,000 in funding per financial year to go towards an eligible UK-registered organisation that aligns with our commitment to making the world more connected, inclusive and secure. A total fund of £50,000 is available every month.
Applications are reviewed monthly by the GiveHub panel, made up of up to seven volunteers from the membership, who work closely with the Membership Engagement team.
