A reminder that Nominet members have less than 24 hours left to submit nominations for this year’s member-elected director election.
The deadline is tomorrow: Tuesday 30 June 2026, at 12pm BST.
Nominet has also shared a reminder on X/Twitter, noting that nominations for the member-elected director role close at noon and encouraging members to help shape the future of the organisation.
Their latest reminder on Twitter/X:
One vacancy for a three-year term
This year, there is one vacancy for a three-year term on the Nominet Board.
The successful candidate will join Nominet’s Board as a Non-Executive Director and will be one of the four member-elected directors who sit alongside appointed non-executive directors and executive directors.
For Acorn Domains members, this is one of the more important dates in the Nominet calendar. Nominet is the operator of the .UK registry and its governance directly affects the namespace many of us work with every day, whether as registrars, domain investors, developers, hosting providers, brokers, or long-term .uk portfolio holders.
Nominet’s Board is responsible for setting strategy, monitoring performance, overseeing risk and controls, and ensuring the organisation meets its obligations to members, customers and wider stakeholders.
The 2026 candidate pack also notes that this election comes as Nominet marks 30 years as guardian of the national domain name registry, with continued focus on stewardship of .UK and delivery of its registry standardisation programme.
Who can stand?
A nominee does not need to be a Nominet member.
However, the candidate must be proposed and seconded by two different Nominet members. The proposer and seconder must email their nominations to [email protected], together with a short statement for publication explaining the nominee’s suitability for the Board.
The nominee must also submit the required election documents by the same deadline.
What candidates need to submit
According to the candidate pack, nominees must provide:
Applications should be sent to:
[email protected]
The deadline is 12pm BST on Tuesday 30 June 2026.
What the role involves
The Nominet NED role is not a symbolic appointment.
The candidate pack describes a role that includes contributing to strategy, challenging and supporting executive management, reviewing performance, monitoring risk and controls, serving on Board committees, engaging with members and stakeholders, and potentially participating in or chairing UK Registry Advisory Council meetings.
Board meetings are typically held every two months and require a full day, plus preparation time. Nominet says the minimum time commitment is around 25 to 30 days per year.
The annual fee for the role is £42,000.
The election process
After nominations close, candidates will go through background checks between 1 July and 29 July. Nominet says this is consistent with its role in operating critical national infrastructure.
The checks may include proof of identity, proof of address, employment and qualification checks, references, criminal record checks, directorship checks and company record searches.
The Nominations Committee is expected to review applications during the week commencing 3 August, with candidates announced to members during the week commencing 10 August.
Key dates
Voting will be conducted electronically by Lumi Global using the Single Transferable Voting system. Weighted voting rights apply, in line with Nominet’s voting rights policy.
Why Acorn members should pay attention
Member-elected directors are one of the few direct routes for the .UK community to place experienced, accountable voices into Nominet’s governance structure.
For those who care about the future of .uk, registrar relations, member engagement, registry standards, public benefit priorities, service quality and long-term trust in the namespace, this is not just an internal corporate process. It is part of how the UK domain community helps shape the organisation responsible for one of the country’s most important pieces of internet infrastructure.
Nominet members who know a suitable candidate should act now.
The window closes tomorrow at noon.
