Non bloated anti virus?

But if you still want Microsoft... Well, AVG does a good job for free.

I use Norton 360, but Microsoft Security Essentials isn't bad for a freebie when used in conjunction with something like Malware Bytes.

Nod32 from eset is very lightweight, sometimes I have to check for a pulse. Comes highly recommended from web tech chappies.

Trouble is they've all become bloated over the years. and some of the blocking options that most individuals would be pleased to activate are all disabled by default requiring that level of IT knowledge that many of us really don't have

I'll second the LINUX suggestion.

But I also use windows for some stuff, and I use avira with windows. It's not bloated and uses very little resources until it decides to update all by itself when you are in the middle of something important, then you can forget about doing anything until it finishes, hogs ALL resources, and the popup every 24 hours suggesting you should go paid is annoying. Apart from that it's fine.

I personally love playing around with the Windows-tools-processes-priority settings if I'm aware of anything trying to tell me "whats happening bruv"

Nod32 is the one we're currently recommending to clients, we were using kaspersky but that really slows down pretty much any computer.

For people that don't want to pay we recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, same engine as Forefront client security but free (for home use).

I've been using McAfee for the past 5 years with no issues. However, I switched when it expired about a month ago because so many people told me that it was one of the slowest.

I bought Bit Defender and have had nothing but trouble, it wouldn't install, then once it installed it crashed after updating, it took 9 hours to do a full scan. Yesterday I downloaded the trial of Kasperky and so far it's been okay, but I'm thinking back to the McAfee days and wondering why I switched.

Ultimately, and surprisingly, McAfee has been the quickest and less bulky package I've tried, despite popular opinion.

i would agree with Mr Wingate ...NOD32 either anti virus or total security

I use NOD32 and it is very lightweight, and quick to update. However, it did miss one bit of spyware, so I now use it in conjuction with malwarebytes.

That rules out Nod32 for me then.

I always do the opposite of what IT Support tell me, most IT support guys don't have a clue what they are doing

I haven't used an anti-virus for about 8 years, Common sense can serve you pretty well most of the time.
