Hi to all the experienced drop catch dudes...

I quite fancy a domain that is dropping soon but it's more the sort of domain I would like to reg just because it's available rather than shell out for if you know what I mean ?

It's is three words all together (no hyphen). .co.uk
The exact match Google searches in december were only 100 and the broad match is more like 1500 so not majorly attractive ?

My question is do pretty much all dropping domains except the multi hyphened / numeral crap get hoovered up by the domain catching dudes or will I have a chance going into say heartinternet on drop day and trying to grab it there ?

Hope this makes some sense to someone ?!

Most of the public dropcatchers charge £30 ish no win no fee, I'd book it with all of them to be safe, domcollect tend to hoover up a lot of the scraps so it may get picked up.

If nobody else can be bothered to catch it, then you can do that. If you think it's worth £30 you could always sign up to dacr.co.uk and try to catch it there. If it's already booked, that might be a sign that it's more popular than you suspected.

Thanks for the tips guys.

One other thing I am not clear on, if someone catches it for me on no win, no fee, that's 30quid, fair enough, do I have to pay the nom transfer then or can the catcher whack it straight to me ?, then I presume I would have to pay the normal 2 year fee at my registrar .. so is it...

30 catch + 11.75 nom + 8ish 2 years reg

or ?

Depends who you use, caught for example reg it in your name and just do a tag change in which case there are no other fees, dacr you will need to pay for the transfer over to you.

Out of the ~1,000 .uk domains that drop per day, I would say 10-15% are registered by drop catchers.

I just did a quick scan and of yesterdays domainlore list 618/721 are currently free to reg, so you're about spot on. Some will probably have been hand regged though I suppose.

Indeed. When you consider new .uk registrations average ~4,500 per day, drop catchers would only represent 2-3% of that. Hardly alarming.
