I got one of the names off Lee that he swooped in and got on the day of the drop for a reasonable low-mid-XXX. I espect he paid XX for it, but I was happy so all good.

Its not exactly hard to mimic what Lee does is it ? (sorry lee), draft a letter, buy some nice paper, envelopes, stamps, and fire them bad boys out. I even posted a while ago some very nice paper and envelopes along with a suggestion for the font and everything

Who said I did not ?! I am not against the tecnique used here to buy or flip a name. I only question how a suspended name without any legal background behind it would be delayed due drop date.

I guess a sale is a legal agreement and nominet are facilitating that as part of their obligation to the client (original owner).

If they disallowed it, then they would either need allow Thee buyer to pay for a renewel or have the client process the renewel, so the practice would just change a little if they stopped holding drops.

What did you smoke? what about looking at the coin from other side: A renewal is a legal agreement between the original owner and the Nominet. At the end of the 2 years period there is a heck amount of time to renew a domain. If a domain passes renewal time plus 90 days Nominet should drop that name. That is the legal agreement.

I never understand this blinkered point of view. Nominet does not operate for the benefit of 'drop catchers', expired domains are dropped at their discretion, and rightly so.

It's quite reasonable for Nominet to exercise discretion. There may be legal or other extenuating circumstances. Turnic, you just agreed with this in your previous post but one. As philipp points out, Nominet certainly doesn't put the interests of dropcatchers first, and why should they?

Can you read? It says "it will be then cancelled". It does not say we may cancel or not depending on our discretion or whether a mofo is about to buy it so we may wait until he completes his sale.

Correct, however there is no 'legal agreement' as you put it earlier. It's not etched in stone you know!

I'm aware that in the (IMHO corrupt and crappy) dot-com world, you're not allowed to renew seven days before the cancellation. I'm very happy that Nominet doesn't operate such a rubbish system in the UK, and long may it stay so
