.org.uk domains how many local exacts makes it worth reg?

hi all sorry for the idiot question in advance!

ive spotted a few available .org.uk domains.. ill be really honest that its an area that i dont really meddle with usually but looking into new areas as id like a little change of scene online..

could anyone give an example of what they'd personally think a good worthwhile minimum local exact amount would be in terms to the .org.uk being probably more than worth its reg fee?

also would your example more than likely be worth the .co.uk reg fee if that was available..?

It could have 1,000,000 exacts, but if that's as a result of it being a TM or a defacto TM (i.e. an expression that has become "famous" because of a single site and/or which would have been completely worthless until a particular product/service came along) then it's worth exactly £0.

Beyond that, you have to look at the commercial potential at least as much as the exacts.

Personally, I've given up even considering .org.uk names, but I know there are folks on here who've had some ok sales in that extension. The chances of finding lumps of gold lying around unnoticed in 2012 are practically nil, though, so bear in mind there's almost certainly a GOOD reason why a particular name is still unregistered.

NOTE: stuff like song titles, TV show/movie names, etc. can also make an expression "unduly popular" for a while, but 99.99% of the time the resultant name will still be utterly worthless.

Development may bring in an income but with affiliate etc taking more and more kicks from “G” etc even that’s unlikely

Your own product etc it might bring in some income but’s that’s a big if and you’d be foolish to really think of setting a business around one …

Id say not bad for development, as there are a fair few .org.us ranking really well in the search engines at the min.

Were all the cheap ones…? Just look around how many sales above 1k is that 10, 20, 100 a 1000, 10,000 or how many sales above 10k (how long ago were they registered and against how many registrations ?) Compare that with other tlds, cctlds could you name a 100, 1000 + business making 10, 20k etc set up exclusively around a org.uk..?

The poster question is about new registration how many recently registered ones would make 100, 1000, 10,000 etc even going back five years..? On a purely speculative new registration bases one of the abundance of new cctld tld that comes out could possibly make a better hit and run purchase and development wise a co’uk or other tld, long tail, hyphenated etc development is no less. (I wouldn’t say that’s a great idea either) I do not dispute that some will sell though again for a fraction of there higher cctld counterparts and wish they did but the figures don’t add up?

There might not be many org.uk's free to reg which are worth £xxx but there are still plenty to be found with a bit of research that will be worth more than reg fee (ie £30-£50 for resale). Personally I would say 1600 + exacts is worth considering (assuming cpc of more than 70p). Would consider 1000+ exacts if significantly higher CPC (eg £5 +).

As others have said make sure it's something that can be easily monetised and is not a trademark and obviously developing (even with a mini-site) and getting ranked makes the name more valuable.

I am actually a big fan of .org.uk's, obviously i'd prefer to have the .co.uk, but as long as I can get my site ranking well I am happy.
