I thought this was funny, Matt Cutts (Google) sort of declared war on the spammers that appear as results for the payday loans search terms via a number of updates that started last week. Not sure how long this will last but if you search 'payday loans' on Google UK take a look at the third result :-)

haha, brilliant.

Be interesting to know how much these search spam campaigns cost to implement. Theses black hat seo's must be making a fortune

Probably only a small % of what they make.

Jamie did a test on spamming a site up, seemed to be a very good return on his investment last time I heard.

Be interesting to hear him to a full summary now it's been a few months.

Wtf!

How they do that? <<<<<< million pound question

Thousands of spam links would be my safe bet guess ;)

Whack'a'mole SEO.

Firstly, I'd like to mention that I wouldn't call myself a blackhat SEO (sometimes wish I could call myself that!), but yes I have done a few tests to see how these types of things work.

If you pick the right niche you can make an absolute fortune without too much effort. You don't have to be rich either, around $130 a month will get you some fairly powerful links.

I've no idea how they rank for things like payday loans though to be honest, really wish I did :) But in saying that I've ranked some fairly tough keywords by using these links.

Roughly speaking - around 6 months.

I think things are a bit harder now though. Trying out something similar at the moment actually. That's enough from me anyway :)

Looks like the paydayloansfrommrcutts.blog.co.uk has bitten the dust, but they're still using other subdomains from .blog.co.uk which are on page 1, namely:

piggypayday.blog.co.uk
masspaydayloans.blog.co.uk

And even a Tripod sub domain :

ynotpaydayloans.tripod.co.uk

I did quite a bit of digging into this one, mainly because I have operated in this niche before.

The link building plan is basically get a massive amount of root domain links in as quick a time as possible and it will get up there. It won't last long though!

They mixed up some authority links (possibly using sape) with tens of thousands of blog comments, guest book links, forum links, blog posts on web 2.0s, profile image links which gave it some diversity.

The main problem is these same blackhatters are most likely the culprits for spamming their competitors. It's way too easy for them to spam thousands of the same anchor text and take down any site in a few days. They did this to me and I had invested quite a lot of money doing this the white hat way.

Other blackhatters are using the joomla plugin hack! I would avoid hacking at all costs as its illegal!

Maybe I will do an experiment if I can find a few hundred quid spare!
