PR from nowhere

I have a number of domains that have been parked since registration. 6 months on, some of them are showing page ranks of up to 3, despite never being 'live'. How can this be?

I had a domain that went PR5 for duration of one update (3 months) and was just a parked sedo page. One thing i noticed was that i had made it a featured domain, so i guess it got backlinks from the various sedo sites across the world. Interesting though...
