Say i saw a term like "big fish" has 1000 exacts, would a domain such as bigfishsmell.com be a decent domain?

Not sure if I asked that properly.

Thanks

Obviously it depends on the size of the market and competitiveness etc. But at the moment there's plenty of people who will pay good money for paydayloansword.co.uk domains, as an example. Any top keyword with a decent word after it should have reasonable potential for resale value, but usually you'll need other factors to be in play (brandability, age or existing backlinks).

i plan on developing the domain myself, but just want to make sure the domain i choose, will be good enough to resell at a later date, should I want to. The competition is low, and the term has 60k exacts (and is not a trademark from what I can tell thus far in my research), but obviously I cant get the exact domain, but the added on word (uk, shop, store, etc etc) is available.

Thanks :)

It sounds like it's going to be a product name? Which means it's almost certainly trademarked... Or, at the very least, will be considered to be passing-off.

errm, well as I said, from what I have researched so far its a generalised term, but its a new 'fad' (for want of better word) and the term has a few sellers on here selling similar generated domains, without any questions. Normally acorn posters are pretty straight up with regard to potential hot potatoes.

Still not 100% sure yet, as I say, I need to do more research. Thanks :)

Search volume is a narrow-sighted way of looking at a domain.
It doesn't mean much. Equally important questions are which niche, how much does it pay.
Search volume doesn't mean there will be traffic, buyers or will be easy to monetize.

Instead, ask yourself if the name makes sense on its own, why it's not registered if it's really great. Sticking two keywords together doesn't automatically make a meaningful domain. IMO it's best to focus on industries you are familiar with.
You can still resell a developed domain, then you are actually selling a website. The value will stem from contents + SEO, more than the domain itself that could be very average.

I appreciate your advise sdsinc. I understand the exacts are just one small consideration and there are many more variables to consider, but I am confident in the other areas, I just wanted to have thoughts on my OP.

Cheers :)
