Nailed it... 60 seconds.

I could tell you all a funny story about my problem solving ability, I won £600 first prize as a school kid and then got a slap off my Dad as the phone bill was £750..... long story haha.

haha were you cheating?

Yep, it was a mensa run competition on channel 4 teletext and I worked out a cheat for it. All was good for about 2 days as I got my cheque for top spot... 2 days later the phone bill come in.

My Dad didn't appreciate the testing phase of the operation, it was an 0891 number. My £600 got swallowed up very quickly indeed :-(

Looks like we all impressed ourselves, haha. I just hope no-one launches a calculus thread :-D.

Someone please explain, I have no idea how the answer is 410, do you have to know a certain type of maths, as calculus was mentioned above?

Its like when I was in school, I was terrible at fractions. Half the time I got them wrong. Well, when I say half the time....;)

Look again mate. It's just the two numbers first subtracted and then added and put side by side.

5 - 3 = 2
5 + 3 = 8

so 5 + 3 = 28.

Answer in white to prevent spoiling anyone's fun ....

7-3 followed by 7+3. ie 4 then 10

EDIT - Too late I guess!

Just Google 5 + 3 = 28

Ok, did that and got this question:

If 5+3=28, 9+1=810, 8+6=214, 5+4=19 then 7+2=?????????
if

5+3=28
9+1=810
8+6=214
5+4=19

then

7+2=

?????

To which someone else posted the answer:

59

5 + 3 = (5-3) (5+3) = 28

7 + 2 = (7-2) (7+2) = 59

Still doesn't make any sent to me at all, how would you think 5 + 3 = (5-3) (5+3) = 28, surely must be some sort of maths formula to arrive at the answer, what do the "()" mean? and where do you get 5 minus 3 from?

Syst, you just subtract the first two numbers to get your first number, then add it on to the front of the real answer.

So 5-3=2, and 5+3=8, so the answer is 28.

Why, that's just pointless to me, I was thinking it was something to do with algebra or calculus or whatever, neither of which I have done before.
