One of my websites, KeywordX.co.uk, is ranking number one in Google for the phrase Keyword X.

Currently, the site is ranking on page two for Keyword Y. This phrase also has good search volume, so I've just bought KeywordY.co.uk.

I've now set up KeywordY.co.uk as a 301 redirect to KeywordX.co.uk.

The main site is already optimised for the phrase Keyword Y. Am I correct in thinking that if I build links to KeywordY.co.uk with the anchor text Keyword Y it will assist in boosting me up the rankings with the domain KeywordX.co.uk for that phrase, or will I be wasting my time?

Thanks!

It's a bit of a contested point at the mo. Google recommend using a 301 redirect, but also say that nothing is now passed across, so it deends on whether you believe them or not.

If keywordy is a totally new domain that has never been indexed then I don't think it'll work for you.

A better option may be to put a frame on the keywordy domain instead pointing at your other site.

The keywordy site can then be indexed in Google, and the keywords will be transferred across to the other site.

If you want some more details and an example let me know.

An example would be good :) glad I bought the domains anyway as it stops any competition grabbing them.

Would it perhaps be better instead of redirecting them to put a simple information page on KeywordY with a link to the main website KeywordX to gain an extra link? (Apologies if this is the type of thing you are referring to) :)
