Registered domain but it failed 2 days later

I registered a domain that was FTR on Go Daddy on the 28th

I then get an e-mail today (30th) saying the reg has failed and I was getting a refund.

I then did a whois on the domain and it registered on the 30th to someone else.

A pretty much wtf moment, I have a confirmation e-mail saying it was mine on the 28th

Is there anything that I can do?

I wanted the domain and I am pretty annoyed that they messed it up and now someone else has it :evil:

If it is .co.uk then you might consider approaching Nominet for help as Godaddy.com are now a Nominet registrar.

I would still bring the matter up with Nominet, if it is registered by Godaddy TAG to another client they may force them to give it to you, if you were first?

You will not know what pressure Nominet can put on Godaddy.com as a registrar until you contact Nominet and tell them the domain in question and the sequence of events.

As pressure on Godaddy.com directly from yourself has failed to resolve the problem.

It's unlikely Nominet will do anything.

The only thing you can do is use a decent registrar. .uk domain registrations are instant, either Godaddy should have known something had gone wrong as soon as you'd submitted your order and informed you or they didn't submit the registration request for 2 days. Either way it's not the sign of a reliable registrar!

If you are planning in doing anything more than the occasional UK domain, get yourself a Nominet membership and a TAG, the benefit of being able to ditch these unreliable registrars and manage the whole thing yourself soon outweighs the setup cost (unless you don't include the actual value your time in the maths)

Godaddy is unreliable when it comes to checking domain name availability. But since you say you tried to register the domain on 28 Sept, it's not normal that it takes two days to fulfill the order, even if there was a problem securing payment (failure to authorize credit card payment).
In view of the sequence of events, I would certainly demand an explanation.

That being said, the large US registrars aren't good places for registering ccTLDs. Especially given the fact that each ccTLD has its own peculiarities.
