Report says Web domain disputes on the increase

It's all the newbies coming into the industry - the only names they can find with high "exacts" are trademark infringements, but they don't know - or care about - the difference, since the one "fact" they've learned is that names with high exacts are more valuable...

There's no solution, either - if you imagine a still-available name that 1,000 domainers have looked at and ignored despite its strong exact count because we all know it's an obvious TM, as the total number of people rushing into domaining grows, there will eventually be somebody with more greed and less common sense, or desire to learn, and bingo that's one more trademark infringement!

… "They are doing all that they can to protect their revenue streams - domain names are the key to the door of online retail." …

and even reverse hijacking. It becomes a problem when they claim generic words as trademarks.

There are also a lot of 'not-so-newbies' who buy the trademarked domain names, throw a site together and make what they can out of it before getting the threat of legal action letter.

Just spent ~£2K seeing off a hijacking attempt. They had help from Nominet writing the complaint (making suggestions for 'improvements'), unbelievable. Nominet and it's staff hate domain investors. That's the only conclusion I can draw from the experience.

Yes there are alot of newish regs although some were over ten years old and as co.uk is important so is com and of the last 200 odd cases (250 names 35 of the com were free to reg...? )If there going to the bother of paying a fee you’d think they reg them just to stop the grief (2 are suspended and one free too reg… ) last 197 120 Summary Decision ( cheaper option) 71 full 6 appeals, 20 no actions (1 on appeal) 2 Cancellations
