Thanks for your post.

There are technical reasons why I have chosen the current setup, I'm sure most have noticed that once a resource limit or allocation is applied on cPanel it goes to a point after which you can't create any more accounts because all other accounts are using it up.

As an early reseller, since 2004, I have always had problems with this and I found no decent provider who caters for this, so it is truly unique to us (Hosting World).

Also it benefits the user because if you read the fair use it mentions that if you go over your limit then your service will continue normally, basically without getting penalised. It will start to affect your service if this is a regular occurrence, then we will contact you to discuss a higher fair use based on your individual needs.

It's is IMPOSSIBLE to both have "unlimited everything" and "fair use". That's a contradiction like "finite infinity"!

Unlimited has NO limits. If somebody wants to serve up an exabyte of bandwidth and store a petabyte of files, they should be allowed to if it's "unlimited".

Of course that would bankrupt any company in an instant, and is not commercially feasible.

What is very, very possible on the other hand is to make use of the DELETE key and remove all references to "unlimited" from this sales pitch and from your website.

It really annoys me (can you tell?) to see this smoke and mirrors trick still being pulled by hosting firms. It's 2011 not 1995 - you need to acknowledge that your customers are much more clued in and sophisticated now, and start marketing to them accordingly, rather than trying to make them look stupid.

Edwin your entitled to your opinion, however there is nothing dubious in this sales pitch that warrants the removal of "all references to unlimited".

Can I ask you why all the big mobile networks give you unlimited minutes yet there is a fair use- mine with T-Mobile is 1800 minutes? Can I ask you why they also give you unlimited data/internet but there is a fair use of 500MB?

It is all possible because some people don't understand the fact that it is unlimited until the point when you reach the fair use, after that you are penalised. However our offer does not penalise you if you go above the fair use, providing it's not a regular thing for you- if it is then we will simply discuss a higher allowance.
Besides, my answer to Jimm's questions above also highlights why unlimited has been used for a technical reason as well.

The ASA are stamping down on these types of claims these days, so be very careful with how you describe your services.

CAP and BCAP are now consulting on their proposals for new advertising guidance on the use of “Up to” broadband speed and “Unlimited” usage claims in telecommunications advertising.

Web hosting is clearly telecommunications so falls under the same banner. Having limits should be a sign of quality, especially when it comes to web hosting (and reseller web hosting at that!) where your clients are entrusting you with their web site, and potentially their livelihood.

Thank you Darren, this is actually the exact reason why we have a fair use policy in place!

It will be interesting to see what proposals CAP and BCAP come out with.
