I've just been doing a bit of work on my sat nav site, adding some info on units like the TomTom Go 720 and Navman S70 and thinking that sat navs really are getting very cool now. For instance, the NavPix technology in the Navman S70 allows you to download geotagged photos from their website of landmarks and hotels etc to plan your route by.

I've been watching sat nav technology evolve for years, and I really think it's coming of age now. So, if any of you have been thinking of getting one / upgrading, then take a look at:

SatNavSystem.co.uk

and why not treat yourself to one for Christmas (after a successful year of domaining, naturally).

Cheers

ive got a navman f20 with the traffic module. from what i can see from todays newer models, its a bit basic but gets me where i need to be everytime. TomTom's are crap, used one twice and twice it tried to send me across some farmers field, not funny.

still we must remeber that all the sat navs use the US GPS service, which is free but the US military can withdraw the service with a flick of a button. imagine the caos that would cause on the roads of the UK! that would make a wicked Trigger Happy TV gag, switch off the GPS Satellites for an hour and see what happens!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not sure that I see the appeal of a Sat Nav - I have a map that I picked up at the petrol station for £2.99 - works like a dream.

LOL. The new ones are really good, and they will soon have location based services running, so when it's late, they'll help you find a hotel etc. They'll also have a database of photos from GPS cameras so you'll be able to see if something's worth visiting. They also aren't that expensive anymore.

However, there are still some people that don't like being told where to go, and some that enjoy getting lost occasionally too.

Rgds
