I dont buy most of that site. You could take the viewpoint that MySQL would be strengthened by Oracle. They might see it as an excellent way to get people on to the Oracle path. Get them in on the free one, then they get big and need more enterprise level support and SLAs then sell them Oracle.

I can't claim to have looked at the arguments closely, I just responded to something I saw in the MySQL newsletter. For me, MySQL has been absolutely fantastic, and I can't believe that being taken over by a commercial database rival would be anything other than bad news for open source users like me.

The community version as you say is open source, and if Oracle were to kill it off (which I doubt), then you'll see other open source forks spin out of MySQL community edition since it's GPL/FOSS licences would allow that.
