Gartner reckons there's more than 1 billion PCs in use worldwide, 350,000 is insignificant - not worthy of the story...

They could quite easily redirect the first DNS lookup to a website telling them they have a virus and how to get rid.
 
I agree the piece seems a bit contradictory (typical daily mail) but there must be some grounds for this so-called 'invisible' trojan. Mind you if it's Invisable , How do they know whos computers are infected ?
 
By checking the logs of the DNS server...

Number of different source IPs making requests = number of computers.

Not very accurate though as most IPs will be dynamic so will change.
