Good question. The basic criteria for our top domains section is one, sometimes two word generic domains from major tld's. If you check www.sedo.co.uk right now, you'll see domains like

brewery.com
aerobic.com
wanted.com
dog.co.uk
organic.co.uk
discount.co.uk
investor.co.uk

This is just to name a few. And all are great names with primarily .com and .co.uk extensions. You'll also find the .info and .biz in there among others, but more seldom.

We place domains in this list that we know from experience grab the most attention. Obviously we also avoid trademarks, trademark typos, and typos in general. Two word generics that have a lot of traffic can also make the list.

Do domain names have to be parked at Sedo in order to get on this list? Can they just be listed for sale (and used for something else, or parked elsewhere)?

Domains should definitely be parked to be on the list. However, with so many great domains (ahem) on the list, often someone will develop one and it will no longer be parked.

I should also mention that the folks who choose the domains can be very particular and, especially as of late, mainly one word generics have made the list. However, as you can see, a two word domain can make the list if it strikes them.
