Wasn't sure where the best place to post this, so decided to post in the General section.

When you sell a .co.uk name, are there any fees that you have to pay for the transfer or is it a free push? I've read that some sales threads have a mention of "Nominet fees" & "VAT fees"

Hi

Check out http://www.nic.uk/registrants/maintain/transfer/

If you sell a domain usually the transfer is paid by the buyer.

To transfer a domain name, both parties will need to complete a transfer form and send us a confirmatory letter. If the registrant is an individual, please also attach a recent utility bill addressed to the individual at their home address, or a copy of photo ID that confirms their home address, eg. driving licence.

Nominet reserves the right not to transfer a domain name if the correct authority has not been obtained from either party. The transfer fees will not be refunded if a request is subsequently found to lack the correct authority.

Why is selling a .co.uk name so difficult? Why can't you just do a 'push' like most of the other extentions? It's quite suprising that the .co.uk extention has been able to florish with all these hassles!

If you search, you'll see many people who think that the Nominet process makes the .UK domain space far more secure to name theft than others and a small form is not exactly beyond the capability of anyone sufficiently clued up enough to buy a used domain name.

Search a little harder and you will also find many people that think the Nominet system is a pain in the arse and just another reason to fill their not-for-profit coffers. ;)
