Hello,

A Popular Car Magazine (Dedicated to a make of car) owned by IPCMedia changed their name about half a year ago when rebranding.

They still have the old name as their domain name. I have managed to get hold of the new name which used to be registered and owned by another website for years.

I approached them and they have said they are interested in it and do I have a price in mind...

In this kind of situation what is the best way to play it? Should I get them to make an offer or hit them up with a price.

What kind of price would you put on the domain name? Its a short 2 worded .co.uk and is the exact name of the magazine. Gets alot of type in traffic obviously.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Mat

Put yourself in their situation. They don't want to offer a price in case you were thinking a much lower one and you don't want to ask for a price in case they're prepared to go much higher.

I'd personally get a domain valuation from Sedo (whether they're worth the paper or not) and at least you have (a) something to work from and (b) something to show them if they want justification for the value.

I will offer more advice via PM ;)

first, study the company . how much they make very year and what are their revenue streams.
check out companies house and do some research.
it is very important to know "how much they can pay"?.

and take your time in dealing the price:D

You can also get an idea of how much money the business makes by enquiring (anonymously obviously) about their advertising rates.

To get a general feel for domain pricing, see:

http://www.domainprices.co.uk/
http://www.webref.eu/domain-name-trading-resources.php

Once you've got a feel for how much money the company makes from this website, judge what is a reasonable asking price, then check you would be happy with it, then add a negotiating cushion to it, say half or a quarter more, and say that is your "Buy It Now" price, but you are open to offers.

Just be polite and business-like, because there the only people that are going to buy it off you.

Good luck

ill pm you the name.

Im really impressed with the info im getting here guys.

Thanks very much! Rep being added! :)

Would you suggest writing to IPC Media Directly or the specific Magazine Department?

Mat

out of interest can you PM me the name?

IPC are the publishers, but I don't think they will run the magazine..

If its the one with the intitails R.C then i would go in at 5k

The right domain for them is part of their marketing in which they will have a huge budget, 5k as a one off isn't much

Good luck

It may make better sense to send a PM in future rather than dig up old threads.

Well as I'm quite new here, I think it's sensible to look through the archives. I've been reading up for days now and have learned so much. It's apparent that I should've mentioned in my post that quite some time had passed (rather than my 'eventually' comment, which just hinted at it). Still, aside from that, I feel that it is a thread of interest, and that there is at least some merit to posting here rather than PM, if it did sell and the poster is willing to prvide further info. I don't habitually raise threads from the dead on any forum, but there's a time and a place if the story is unfinished so to speak.
