Whats the purpose for all the hard work Mally? since you haven't got an unnatural links warning.

mally, did mention linkaudit.co.uk which takes the hard work out.

I've got the 3 big backlink downloads and then on top of that I've got bing anf gwt downloads.

Lots and lots of links (over 150,000) , now where to start, this is hard work!

Wish I knew how to make excel show only 1 link per website so I can reduce my url list massively.

There's defo room for a good system to help merge the files altogether and to use the info provided by the Majestic SEO, Opensite Explorer and Ahrefs to try and identify the poor links that need removing

Its part of the advanced filter mate

are linkaudit any good if you've not had an unnatural links warning (ie its just an algorithmic penalty due to too many spam links or link keyword density) - in this case I dont think you can file a reconsideration request?

algorithmic penalties will be detected by the density tool, and others. I'm sure if theres problems the tools will find it. best part is it automatically emails the bad links to get them to remove them.

And then your email goes straight in the bin (if it even made it past the spam filters in the first place).

A 'dear webmaster...' automated email is just going to be deleted, along with every other automated link email web masters are receiving.

An automated tool is never going to be able to get the results a human can here.

I wrote an article on how to format the disavow link file more easily using shortcuts in excel:

http://www.searchable.co.uk/how-to-format-your-disavow-links-file-in-excel/

It contains tips such as using data sorting tool to sort out duplicate URLs and then making the domain:website.com merge easier.

Please can we get one thing straight if possible... there is no such thing as an algorithmic penalty or a penguin/panda penalty. Nor is EMD.

A penalty only occurs when a member of staff at Google manually reviews your website and finds issue with it.

If you have suffered at the hands of Penguin, Panda, EMD or other updates then yes it may feel like a penalty but basically there are plenty of ways to dig your way out of it if you really want to, more often than not though, site owners want to find a short-cut which is kid of how they screwed up in the first place.

What would you call it if not a penalty?

The last paragraph is a bit shortsighted IMO. I have worked for almost a year trying to dig my site back out of the 'penalty' it's in.

When a site drops from 1st to absolutely no-where within top 40 pages for its main targeted keyword then you have been penalised. Whether this is a manual penalty, or you've tripped an algo penalty - you have been penalised for some kind of wrong doing.

I have a site this happened to. Every so often it drops back to 1st or 2nd for two weeks, then disappears (again not in first 40 pages). It doesn't naturally deserve this position - so it has been unnaturally penalised i.e. a penalty

As I said, its an algorithm and not a penalty.

Focussing on one keyword as so many site owners do is the mindset that sets them off down the path to getting Penguined.

I should add that Google do not classify Penguin or Panda as penalties. What happens is that you are not worthy of the position and so you are pushed back down the SERPs, if in the case of Penguin you can rebalance your backlink profile and send the right signals to Google you will find that you will rise back up the SERPs but it is not a penalty. To achieve a penalty you will need to be breaking the webmasters guidelines. Basically, Google is filtering out sites that are not worthy of being in the top postions.

There is a process for digging a site out from Penguin, Panda or even a manual penalty. I do this full-time 40 + hrs a week!

I've got a site that does exactly as cc976a describes - bounces from page 1 to infinity and back regularly! Oceanic, seeing as you deal with this full time would you also consider offering your services privately?
