Simple Meta Tag question...

Hello people,

When adding keywords to a content meta tag how would you seperate words...

Eg: The keywords are 'banana sandwiches' (bear with me! This is an example only! :lol how would you cover all bases... Like this?:

banana, sandwiches, bananasandwiches, banana sandwiches, banana sandwich, sandwich

If one keyword encompases several eg: sandwiches (also includes the word sandwich) is this enough or would you put both keywords in the meta tag?

And, do you have to do keywords seperatly and also include keyword phrases eg: banana, sandwiches, banana sandwiches, or does including the keywords seperatly do enough?...

Hope that doesnt sound like a load of sh*t but they were the first words that sprang to mind!

Keyword meta tags in relation to SEO/organic ranking are almost completely worthless today so I wouldn't dwell on it Rich.

I was expecting people to say that, and most to say that content / backlinks etc is more important but just for completeness and professionalism I wanted to know exactly what I should do?....

I don't even bother with the keyword tag.

Going back to the old days, you would only use a keyword tag for words that were found on the page. So covering different phrases and miss-spellings would'nt really work that well.

If you are going to include them for completeness, then you should think in terms of phrases rather than individual words, so it would be:

<meta name="keywords" content="banana sandwich, banana sandwiches, cheap banana sandwiches, banana sandwich shop">

don't overdo it though otherwise you might get penalised for keyword spamming.

That is my understanding yes, it's keyphrases rather than keywords that are important.
