..worth investing in co.nz do you think? This name would be I think mid £xxx, xxx in .com, £xx,xxx in .co.uk so I thought why not take a punt for effectively £10.80 (1stdomains)...

Anyone else invested in or own any co.nz domains? Have you had any sales? :D

Please PM me if you'd like to know the domain.

Thanks,
Dave

I've answered your PM.

To put the non-name-specific part of your comment on here, if you're investing in .co.nz names you need to remember:

A) The .nz is coming, but the cutoff date was some time ago so anything you register now won't qualify for the matching .nz - and who knows what will happen to the value of .co.nz once .nz is widely available?

B) The market is much smaller so you have to be much much much more choosy. Think the tip top very strongly commercial terms at best (and remember A above)

C) You also need to put yourself in the mind of someone in New Zealand: you have to use the right terminology (just like we say "pavement" and Americans say "sidewalk") since there will be thousands of cases where the primary term in the UK is unpopular or not used at all in New Zealand. Do your research!

D) You also need to think WHERE New Zealand is. It's far away from everywhere, apart from its neighbour Australia, so while for example a popular tourist destination in Europe might work as a .co.uk, it will fail utterly in .co.nz because there might be 10 people a year who go there from New Zealand! Consider that it takes several flights and well over 24 hours to get from NZ to Europe.

E) Even if you do get buyer interest, the much smaller market means that they won't have the deep pockets that some .co.uk buyers may have. There's also probably little/no interest in acquiring .co.nz domains by companies outside NZ (unlike .co.uk where quite a few are bought by European/US firms because the UK market is "big enough" for them to want a local online presence)

All that said, I've had a handful of £x,xxx sales in .co.nz but they are 1) few and far between and 2) for terms that would fetch an easy 5 to 6 figures in .co.uk. Overall I'm still decidedly negative when you count the renewal fees for all the other .co.nz names that haven't sold.

Thanks a lot for taking the time offer advice Edwin, much appreciated. All very valid points and now gives me more understanding about investing in co.nz domains. :)

Thanks mate! :D

Not really. Low populace, high reg/renewal fee, short pocket buyers and the latest development .co.nz premium holders have to battle for the equivalent .nz. The space has become a headache, migraine level.

Well thankfully I haven't lost much investing in this and maybe I can get my reg fee back.. lol.

Thanks all,
Dave
