After almost 7 days on the phone to BT's " extremely efficient Indian call centers!!! "

I've now been told that I can't obtain a static ip with BT Home Broadband.

And

You cannot transfer a Home Broadband account to a Business Broadband account without cancelling the original agreement and waiting, for upto 30 days without any broadband access untill the NEW Business Broadband activation has taken place.

Who is everyone else using? who offers a static IP as standard? & who are the better broadband providers offering speeds of at least 2.2 mbps?

Help urgently required.

I have a block of static IPs from plus.net, you should be able to migrate to them from BT so you have no interuption in service. Youll be able to get a block of 4 IPs (2 usable) for free, if you want 8 or more you have to have a good reason, like hosting web sites and DNS x 2 and a VPN etc. etc.

Good luck.

Cheers eetc

Just been throught on the phone - I'm always very wary of companies that lead you round the faq houses before finally offering a contact number, but I got thru and they have £21.99 per month witha static for 2mps

Are you running DAC of their connection? and have you had any problems with them? Can you offer any other help or warnings before I sign up?

Alex

Not running DAC actually. No pain with setting up the connection though.

Tiscali told me virtually the same thing, have to be offline 20 days to move from home to business account just to get a static IP - madness!

My plus.net is not business but still they allowed me static addresses. You can apply for the static addresses through your control panel once you have the account if you only want 4, you only have to jump through hoops if you want 8 or more. If you don't need a business account don't get one.

This is their home premier account, it all seems ok, migration within 7 days.

In what instances would you need more than 1 static IP? or is that a stupid question?

Indeed, but you may have a good reason for wanting more than one whilst also using NAT, hosting two DNS servers perhaps. However, if you just need to connect to DAC then you only need one.
