Hi guys

My site has been live for around 10 months now and I really want to increase traffic but I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall when it comes to improving my SEO, I guess my knowledge isn't great but I would appreciated any advice at all that may improve my ranking and increase traffic etc!!!

Many thanks

Matt

Forget pagerank.

Get links to your site from respected & relative sites in your genre.

forget pagerank

Get links to you pages from relevant sites....make the anchor text be similar to the page title that the link is going to

Hi Devamatt

I agree with the guys, get some quality links, plus it does'nt harm getting some h1 tags with some of your keywords in it, also some of you images are missing alt text.

SEO is a long term thing. 10 months for competitive terms isn;t that long really... The BEST way to drive traffic to sites like yours initially is with PPC to specific landing pages; you just need to make sure your ROI stays high. The organic listings will come over time as you get more back links and tweak the site.

Make sure you have your pages all well structured (CSS, H1...H6 etc., alt tags), add FAQ pages so you get more long-tail hits, you probably need to shield all of your affiliate links (ie. link to a script on your site which redirects, rather than link directly to an Affiliate Window link for example).

You might also want to focus on one sector as well, as currently it's a bit confused, with something for everyone.

just an addition - be CAREFUL with PPC. Finance KWs can cost £6 per click if you want to be on page 1 of Google...

Newbie here, can anyone tell me how do you do this?

Thanks

depends on platform and the way you have set things up. Some possible methods:

1. Pass a Base64 or other encrypted URL to a PHP/ASPX page which will decode and do a redirect to the destination

2. Pass a parameter to a script file that uses that parameter to visit either a hardcoded URL or does a database lookup to find the URL to redirect to

Just make sure you put REL=NOFOLLOW on the href links. The good search engines will then ignore those particular links.
