Now the euphoria and/or relief of .uk announcements has died down.

Nominet have laid at the plans in detail about .uk and I know have not solicited opinions about any changes, however up until February there is an opportunity to provide Nominet with some observations that they may consider incorporating into there final detailed release.

    To start with, some areas that maybe warrant some changes;

Price - although there is a case for £2.50 p.a. is reasonable, there is also a case for saying that if you own both .co.uk and .uk and only effectively use one, then there should be a different price. Also there is a case of whether Nominet needs to re-look at all its prices due to the huge extra surplus the current suggested pricing model will produce.

Security - as there will be cases of 2 different owners of .co.uk and .uk in the first 5 years it will be rare, maybe only 100,000 cases. But that will develop in the mind of the consumer that .uk and .co.uk are one and the same, that may well be exploited by those that want to steal traffic or commit illegal security breaches.

Sub domains - in both V1 and V2 there was extensive sections on sub domains. I have not come across how this area will be dealt with under V3.

DRS - maybe there would be the possibility of a cheaper 'fast track' for DRS complaints on set criteria created by the introduction of .uk, like against those that register <argos>co.uk.

Any more or comments on the above would as always be welcome, this is not Nominet bashing it is trying to improve the UK namespace.

I would personally leave well enough alone and go and do something else for a few months :)

There are conflicting interest groups, and if moves are made to try and make further changes to V3, then other interest groups with completely different agendas are likely to also try and make changes, and what results will be a huge mess.

There is a big difference between asking Nominet to explain things that are unclear (i.e. provide clarifications) and agitate for further changes. If one starts down the latter path, then it opens all sorts of cans of worms because no release mechanism can make every party happy.

I would take a well deserved holiday.

Cheaper? The summary decision is the current bane of my life. I spend thousands on a defense that some wanker thinks he can try it on for a few hundred.

Can you just verify that you were one of the few who actually wanted the introduction of .uk

+2. There are going to be enough spurious DRS cases as it is from chancers who think it's worth it to "have a go" with a view to winning the .uk, without rolling out the red carpet for them!

I think you need to focus your energy on something more rewarding for a while, otherwise you could turn badgering Nominet into a full time job. Or maybe you already have.

Get a bike, take up cycling or perhaps take a holiday somewhere and take a rest from all of this, otherwise you'll never stop!

    Yes I did want .uk

Yes I did want .uk as can be seen from my posts at Acorn and my website YourUk.org.uk and the report I wrote contained within it.

    Take a holiday!

Thanks for the advise about getting a life and maybe even a holiday.

I like to finish things off.

After going through the mountains of .uk related information put out by Nominet, reading Acorn threads on .uk and obtaining any comments I can on my immediate observations on improving .uk (above in first post) and any other points to enhance .uk posted, write to Nominet and maybe a few other interested parties and then leave the stage.

I have some great new exciting Website projects and new consultancy clients to help, several holidays already booked, so thanks, I will be very much actively engaged in other pursuits not involving .uk.

I do not see trying to make the .uk better as anti Nominet and that is not my motivation at all.
