Continuing fitness thread…

A good friend of mine runs a taekwondo school. Groups for kids from 5 y.o. and for adults. He is doing a promotion these days – one month free trial. Classes are in Greenford, Southampton, Lewisham (Catford) and Millbrook. If interested check his site.

P.S. I am not affiliated, associated, etc. or make anything out of this. I know school’s Master for years and just want to add few words about him. He is 9 times unbeaten UK Taekwondo champion, 7th Dan (who knows about Martial Arts would understand). Two of latest UK champions are from his classes. And, most importantly, he is a very nice and honest person.

Is the idea now that we can spam anything we want in the general forum - even if it's an MOT garage in Inverness?

I don’t think this is a fair comment. First of all, I don’t spam. Second, I give info that can be useful for some. And third, I don’t advertise anything, as you can see it is a clean, not even keyworded link…

Martial arts classes in Greenford, Southampton, Lewisham (Catford) and Millbrook?

Right.

Yep, just to let people know, where they are... Look, honest, I know at least 4 acorn regulars with interest in martial arts... What is wrong with it?

And he is my friend not business partner. I am not even doing this to help him, he doesn't know about this post. Anyone who knows about martial arts would understand that 7th Dan Master doesn't need advertising. If only one or two kids get into sport based on this - isn't it enough?

Oh, thanks for the red rep! If you are not interested, doesn't mean that it is not useful for others. :-|

to be honest, if this was near me i'd probs be interested and look into it. :)

I did a couple of years at taekwondo - my two youngest still go.

I love Taekwondo and recommend anyone tries it ;)

I had couple of spars with TKD fighters. What can I say... Our (kugnfu) hand technique is the best ;) but TKD high kicks - well, I was impressed. I wish I could do more of (any!) Martial Arts though :(

I've trained jujitsu on and off for about 12 years, mainly japanese but some brazilian along the way, plus I spent a bit of time training submission wrestling about 8 years go with some guys at my uni. Great for fitness, wrestling on a mat for half an hour is enough to make anyone ache the next day.

You, jujitsu people, like twisting other people's arms way too much :D When we had cross-school spars, our Shifu always said: just keep their hands away from you arms as much as you can...

You want to try Aikido mate, you need to be seriously flexible to survive some of the stuff they do, 1 move we learned would snap your arm in 3 places in a single move

Aikido is derived from Jujitsu.

No way, mate ;) When we had cross-style tournaments, my Master was putting me against 'easier' (for me) styles. They went like this:

1. Kickboxing (easiest for kungfu because of very limited blocking techn.)
2. Aikido (very easy to fight if you use lower-body kicks, e.g. knee-high)
3. Shotokan Karate (kick or punch depends on the stance, so when you see the stance you know what's next)

Jujitsu was in the difficult range. And one of the most difficult was "Russian Style".
