I always use target=_blank when using an affiliate link. It just makes sense in my head to do so, maybe because I have a good understanding how browsers work and can deal with new windows opening up.
However some people curse this little bit of code and are generally disgusted that a website can dictate how they use the web. To those people I say get over yourselves losers, if I, as site creator, want you to go to a new window then you must do my bidding. mwhahahahah
However reading up on the topic it seems many old folks can't deal with a new window. Once they arrive in a new window if there is no back button they are screwed! Jakob Nielsen bangs on about it a bit as well.
Does everyone else use a _blank on their affiliate links. I'm thinking about doing some testing to see if has an effect on sales. Has anyone else changed their target and if so what have you concluded?
