This isn't a wind up, I firmly believe in this.
Gurkha Justice Campaign

It's a campaign to get the law changed to allow Gurkhas to live in the UK if they so wish. The homepage tells it better than I could. Suffice to say, Gurkhas have been serving the UK for over 200 years and put their lives on the line, even today, for this country. The more signatures they get, the more chance the Government will have a change of heart on the issue.

I was in the Marines and I thought the trainings and tests we did were hard, the fitness standards to get into this bunch are up their with the SAS.

These guys are the bravest of the brave.

I like how Brown said they would cost £1 billion to let into the UK, these guys were paying UK income tax and UK national insurance when they were in service. They deserve the health care and housing that this country should provide.

Maybe they should have not bothered with years of service to the UK and hung around Calais waiting for a lorry with it's doors wide open. Hide in the back of that and you are laughing.

They ain't going to change their minds mate, so wouldn't bother with petition, just vote accordingly. They are only a year away from getting in anyway, the other parties will let them in.

Haha did anyone see PM questions today, when the speaker said a statement by the Prime Minister and Brown got up and started to walk out before realising he was the PM, :D:D:D They were all pee'ing themselves over that one.

Something is better than nothing

R.A.F. myself, served with some of them in the Middle East (long time ago).

For the sake of those who don't know, it isn't my petition, Joanna Lumley is one of the organisers and is passionate about the issue. Her father served for 30 years with the 6th Gurkha Rifles in Burma. However, I figure it's best to do something rather than nothing (if we believe in anything that is). I've already got a dozen or so signatures from some of my customers and suppliers today and they're passing it on to their friends and colleagues, so a little bit of belief seems to spawn its own reward. I think most reasonable UK Citizens will see the injustice in the Government's decision on this one.

Incidentally... I tried to avoid the politicking but I couldn't agree more with your bit about jumping on a lorry at Calais.

I noticed last year they never had the .co.uk version of their site Gurkha Justice Campaign (didn't want to see someone throw a ppc site on it) So I reg'ed it for them and diverted it to their main site.

I'm all for the action but I just don't think Brown has the ability to say he has something wrong. He'll be gone soon enough anyway, so I'll rejoice in that.

Nice one!

The thing with politicians/governments is that, it is not they, themselves, who are corrupt or devious, but the system that has existed in perpetuity and allows advantages to be taken and blocks individuals from making good and just decisions. The system doesn't allow individuals to make decisions, it is all consuming. As usual, money comes into it, whether it be personal gain or budgetary considerations.

The ideals that come through in manifestos (prior to one or other party being elected) are lost in the convolutions of the system which ends up running the people who try to run it. The system (and I mean any system) is like some monolithic stoney idol that nobody can topple.

Just my tuppence worth on why previously idealistic people get waylaid by the system that ends up consuming them and their ideals.

I had an email (albeit 'canned') from Joanna - that made my day also :)

In fact, she's as much a British institution as are the Gurkhas. Bless her.

I can't resist:

How nice? A 60 year blondie cries (not-sincerely) with a gurka shef. Brits used many indians and Irish against Turks in WW1. Now it is the pay time. Brits should live in India and indians live in England. That is my petition.

Everytime I see these type of events I went to Canakkale and send my dua to Allah telling the souls of all Canakkale sehits how nice they kicked the anglo-french and anzak butts so that we will live in Anadolu free today.

I love my descendants!

You're a sick and uninformed man Serdinc.

What makes you think like that? What the fuck do you know about war history? First you get informed and make comments like that. I am a root man. The root of the problem is Brits used colony nations to fight against other nations. You clueless man really.

You really are thick aint'cha. What do I know about 'war history'? The 'root' of the problem are ignorami llike you attempting to endear yourself to a community of 'hard and fast' Brits. If it wasn't for colonisation, many countries wouldn' t even know how to irrigate the food they try to grow. Turkey is alreay a 'boderline' entrant to the EU, not least of all because of their human rights issues. Ever watched 'Midnight Express'?

That's a crap way of looking at it and very strange.

These soldiers were volunteers from their homeland, they supported the empire because the empire supported them. If their country got into trouble then the empire would turn out on mass to support them.

That's the way of the Empire, looks like New Labour and the other pillocks have succeded in turning a proud insitutution into something of slave trade styled image.

Speak and serve with people from the Empire / Commonwealth and see if they feel like they are being used or are actually getting an amazing chance in life.......
