Three quarters of consumers unaware of rules on cookies

Seventy five percent of consumers are not aware of EU privacy rules designed to give internet users more control over the data websites collect about them according to a new survey.

According to research by edigitalresearch and IMRG only 16% of those aware of the rules actually understood what they mean.

This is my concern with displaying a "We want to place cookies" message, Joe Public hasn't got a clue and simply wants to type "I want a ..." into "The Internet" and be presented with a list of the desired information, anything else will either be accepted without reading T&C's or they'll click away as they don't understand.
