Been having a few discussions with friends about what the three most effective strategies would be to repair sites damaged by the fairly recent changes in the Google Algorithm. Of course, some dubious inbound links are throwing a spanner in the works. I'm interested in what other people have done here on Acorn...

For me, it was mainly rewriting content to reduce the keyword density and altering the internal links from keyword rich to non keyword rich.

Good luck and if you alter something that makes a difference, please remember to share.

I think changing the anchored links is helping too. I.e. instead of "car" having a variation of these or not even at all. Content is changing too.

Being more social is definitely helping, with I think G+ being a good start for most. I wonder if Google will give a higher rank to +1s on Google....:-)

I did the following and collectively they have worked well:

  • Retired some thin pages (<300 words)
  • Beefed up some other thin pages
  • Added greater variety to internal linking anchor text
  • Added greater variety of external links (had got a bit lazy on this)

Another thing to look at is DUPLICATE CONTENT.

Blekko has some great seo tools for this. I'd love to know how you guys are getting on with Blekko and its tools.

If you focus all your attention on google you will end up fighting a losing battle. If however you focus on providing a good usable website that is helpful and attractive to users it will be much more beneficial.
