Trademark domains and 302 redirects for seo

For one of my sites I notice that a competitor of mine has bought a number of trademark product name domains and then performed a 302 redirect on these to the relevant page of their site.

It seems to be working well for them because across the board they are ranking v highly for the product terms - despite appearing to have no 'external' backlinks ie the only backlinks they have are the redirects.

Other than fight fire with fire with trademark domains what would people suggest is the best way to take them on? Doing my usual linkbuilding just doesn't seem to be working on this one

Inform the TM owner.

It's quite possible the TM owner gave permission. I've observed a few cases where the site has been shut down but the name owner allowed to keep it to redirect to a new non-TM violating domain.
