.UK Announced

Its not what we need

Who ever released , this jack in a box , certainly needs to wake up

who the hell would make a open proposal the would undermine its present members assets ,

stock market values are based , on confidence and a companies potential

if you undermine that confidence , then values drop

not only that then business is put on hold as who would want to make major investment in a market , while its future direction is unsure

there should have been a random straw pole taken to see , if this proposal

should have even taken place , its disgusting that nominet acts in a similar way to goldman sachs and jp morgan

ie , acting to promote a gold rush on 2 letter extensions

implementing renewals for above 2 yrs , yes there timing is magnificent

so that have squeezed monies out of investors a perception that the

.co.uk had value , now months later they are seeking to undermine

that which they have been, actively involved in promoting

which smacks of conflict of interest , as if they knew this beforehand

there would certainly be in big legal trouble , and could be open to

a class action , i say the quicker this proposal is removed from the public

and newspapers then confidence can be restored , to the market place

i have had a project put on hold from a investor as they are not sure

of the .co.uk extention

so those that are tag holders i urge you , to write or ring nominet

keep your cool , speak politely and make your point

who in their right mind, would set out to cause such chaos, in a already

highly fragile economy , this proposal is not in the interests of the

greater good period

Is it not possible this will become like .us, ( i know they like .com ) I don't like the sound of eg acorndomains.uk instead of acorndomains.co.uk, how many businesses already have stationary and pre booked ads etc with .co.uk

Given that .com is always gone then they can have .uk or .co.uk and .co.uk sounds better or am I just used to it ?

.co.uk has had a good 15 years start and market presence in that time, so yes everyone is use to it. As Ron puts it "if it's not broke, don't fix it".

all the more reason to continue with your "quality" .co.uk developments as far as i'm concerned.........if you're a straight domainer maybe its time to seek fresh pastures.

If you're in business half the skill is knowing when to move on !

I'll make up my own mind thanks.

Apologies Graeme I don't think I can support this EGM based on your point 1).

I am opposed to the whole idea. I do not wish to double up on registrations .co.uk and .uk. I am happy with the status quo.

Maybe we could take a poll?

Status quo or your statement to be tabled 1). to 7). ?

For what it's worth I don't agree with point 1) either. I'd prefer to keep things as they are, with perhaps some of the security processes applied to present domains if they're absolutley necessary. However I think it's a good idea to ascertain the level of support for an EGM - hence my signing. If there's enough support, then I assume the we'd debate what our common platform is.

Up to 82 signatories of people calling for an EGM, keep it up guys.

Hi Mate,

Cheers for the feedback, the 7 examples on there were a broad outline that around 5 or 6 of us put together. As the backing has increased some clarification has been added.

It is certainly not a final draft, as we get closer to putting a draft together we'll hammer it down to something that everyone is happy with.

----

I propose that tomorrow will see the start of avoid.co.uk the site will be dedicated to the campaign of an EGM.

The domain name would be a description of my honest advice if someone asked me should I use .co.uk at the moment.

Anyone have any objections to that?

Feeling kamikaze? I wouldn't go to far with it. .co.uk is still operational.

A neutral domain to host on would be better IMO.

The issue should be limited to drafting a framework for an EGM discussion and gathering enough support to set up the need for that EGM. There's absolutely no room for "advocacy" of any kind, otherwise the message will get blunted and diluted before the process even starts, and certainly not for "absolute, intractable position"-type advocacy which something like notodotuk.com would imply. Even within the "domainer" cohort, there are going to be significant differences of opinion on some of the broader/finer strokes, let alone the world at large, so the less hurdles to achieving "a united front" the better.

As such, anything that remotely strikes of stridency and rhetoric has IMO no place in the above process.

It's also vital not to antagonise Nominet in any unnecessary way no matter how strongly one feels about their proposal. If things turn into a slanging match, the battle WILL be lost before it even begins. That includes keeping discussions logical, coherent and polite (or at the very least, not needlessly confrontational) on forums, blogs and Twitter.

Nice one Foz :)

Perhaps include Nominet in the URL and be sure to use .COM as it is safer :p

CallForNominetEGM.com

To be fair to Nominet mate they never had any issues or nor did they ever threaten to shut down ebout.co.uk when it was my platform back in 2009.

I don't have any fears of censorship from Nominet, I think they are pretty much relaxed when it comes to criticism.

As Edwin says probably best to stay away from names like avoid.co.uk, so I withdraw that one. He is right, we want to work with people not put them off.

Guys I have decided to pull all my other businesses off that.co.uk , remove all adverts etc and move them to another name. I don't want people saying that I am bringing extra business etc for projects. This has to be 100% about the changes.

We need something to engage business owners and members of the public, we need to inform them on how this will impact them.

Anyone have any problems with using that.co.uk as the hub for it?

Thanks, that sounds like a very sensible way to approach the issue.
