So I just found some nice .uk hacks available in .co.uk, meaning when the .uk becomes available the domain will become a hack, so for example HotelsInThe.co.uk would become HotelsInThe.uk (not my domain just an example).

Does anyone see much value or demand for these types of names? Are they worth taking a small punt on?

One of the ones I have found and just regged for one year is TourThe.co.uk, which will become TourThe.uk.

Thanks,
Dave

I would not want TourThe.uk. Not necessarily to do with the hack, but where is the "easy" revenue potential? This kind of reg would be made by a newbie. You might think it's "amazing", but in reality it's too vague and over-ambitious so you won't be able to make any money from it.

In general, I can't say I'm that enthusiastic about potential .uk hacks. There might be a handful of interesting ones, but in general they will be pointless IMO.

Hope that helps. Good luck as ever.

I think words like the recent manc.co.uk or others like lond.uk / mcr.uk / airport/train code.uk etc have a little scope on sub hacks, but we still don't know how google will treat the left of the period yet. If they treat it as a nothing, then your HotelsInThe suddenly is less appealing.

If you can find them without the in them, then maybe.

There is such a multitude of hacks word, dual, sub domain/directory, partial, Brand , phrase etc where do you start and stop ? I’d say .uk wouldn’t have the appeal that the .es .me etc had ?

the.re general.ly a was.te of ti.me a.nd ca.sh

I would suggest they have a little value if you can pair them with the "unhacked" version e.g. if you have both "hotelsinuk" and "hotelsin" (that lets the new owner decide what to do with which version, or experiment with the shorter one for Adwords, etc.) but as stand-alone names bereft of the "unhacked" version I don't think they'll raise much interest.

Ah seems I'm in the minority thinking these will have value then. Thank you all for your input. Let's see what happens. :D

This is what makes the game interesting and why collaborations and sharing of ideas and information works. Here Dave shares his hack idea, elsewhere golddigger his drivers etc idea, room for everyone with their niches :)

I may pick a few up, I did like InThe.UK for a subdomain idea, like hotels.inthe.uk but I was beaten to the punch.

Thanks Skinner. It sure is always interesting seeing everyones views on different domain niches like this. A couple of years back I was raving about brandable domains being the future and some people said I was mad and now look what's happening to emd's. InThe.uk hack would be a very nice name to develop imo.

Here's to a prosperous 2014 for us all. :D

I am in line for a dozen or so... madeinthe.uk, visitthe.uk, starstr.uk, stagestr.uk, whatthef.uk, etc. I rather like them.

I believed they listed better (sub domain) (domain) (cctld /TLD) e.g. visit.the.uk
Do you believe visitthe.uk would fair better?

Personally, I would prefer to develop visitthe.uk over visit.the.uk but would obviously prefer to own the.uk because of the other sub domain possibilities it offers. From a search engine perspective, I would imagine they would be much the same.
