Validating response as from a human

I have a little project with a friend where we'll ask visitors for a response on a page. We want to have some validation that it is actually a person rather than some spamming robot and I am thinking along the lines of getting the visitor to enter the charagters we present in an image (the sort of thing you see on some bank web sites). I could certainly write this in ASP if I could locate a set of images of obscured letters and numbers but I wondered if anyone here has done this and could point me to a site on the Internet where I could get the snippet of code and the images...

bear in mind that MySpace's Captchas were beaten by spammers who recruited a whole bunch of real people in India to actually load the pages and do it manually.

I'd avoid captcha's - they are hard to read (sometimes) and are a pita.

I use a simple method that's worked well:

What's 3 + 4: [ ]

Then check the result on the following page. Obv, 3 & 4 are randomly generated.

I agree that if you are looking for an easy to implement system, then a simple question and answer is an option. You can always change the question daily. That is enough to put most spammers off unless you are anticipating being a particularly important forum.

Yes, I do want the implementation to be simple and it doesn't warrant a complex solution. I am beginning to believe less is more for me in this case. A simple question regularly changed may well be the solution.
