Late last year there was some dicussion on the forum re potential (any) value of .info domain names - with specific reference to geographic / locations in mind.

At the time I took a punt on a few such items - based on UK location names,
of a tourist theme.

e.g. 'cityname'tourist.info

Sadly the time I have available for either trying to develop sites / or even pursue marketing the domain names is very restricted by other committments that have a much higher priority.

The few I hold are now coming up for renewal - and I have to decide whether to 'hold' or 'let die'.

Should I be throwing any more money at these ?
To be honest I cannot see myself doing these justice in terms of developing.

Any thoughts appreciated

Regards

John

Very few geo’s make any money and even less are standalone business maybe a handful in the states and probably less in the uk if any?, Although domainers may like them real world business don’t appear to so "geo tourist" is not going to appeal to them and domainers (especially lower tld etc there are always free to reg alternatives) either way chances of a sale slim to none.

I agree that the resale market isn't that good.

But to develop, as Tony the Tiger once said, they're grrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeaaaaaatttt.

PS Needs hard work, long term brand building and local knowledge though.

e.g. 'cityname'tourist.info
Problem is, names like these effectively look like domain hacks.
I would much prefer exact match geos.
I wouldn't be surprised that they are still available in .net/.org, then it's highly doubtful the .info would be worth anything.
If you are not prepared to develop, stay away imo.

I think when the dust settles in a few years they will start to go up in value.

Of all the flop tlds, .info and possibly .biz will make it long term.

.info had a very bad start but as an extension in its own right it must be highly logical?

Folks,
Many thanks for all your feedback and comments, it is much appreciated.

Without the time, in the foreseeable future, to make anything of these I am going to cancel the upcoming renewal and let them slip back into the melting pot.

I still have a few others - all .co.uk or .com, that I will hold on to for now (renewals still some time away) - and make decisions re thjose as time passes.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Regards

John
